Across Learn‑to‑Swim classes, swimmers may work on:
- Comfort and confidence in the water
- Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly fundamentals
- Technique, efficiency, and body position
- Using the pace clock
- Aerobic pacing and endurance
- Flip turns and pool etiquette
Sessions are adapted to participants’ abilities and goals.
All Learn‑to‑Swim registrations include:
- Access to the members’ section of our website
- Club news and updates
- A Rideau Speedeaus swim cap at the start of the session
Beginner
Build comfort in the water and develop the basic fitness and technique needed to progress into Stroke Improvement.
Prerequisites:
- Ability to float comfortably on the front or back
- Comfort keeping the head submerged underwater
Stroke Improvement
Improve technique and build the fitness needed to participate in regular coached club practices.
Prerequisite:
- Ability to swim one continuous 25‑metre length of the pool (any stroke) without stopping
Additional Days
Muscle memory matters in swimming. This optional add-on class helps swimmers reinforce skills learned in Learn to Swim while building cardiovascular fitness. This option can be added during registration.
