SwimEAUthon

The Ottawa Rideau Speedeau LGBTQ2+ swim club is happy to organize the annual SwimEAUthon to continue our community involvement. This event will raise funds for two of our community’s important organizations: Capital Rainbow Refuge and le Bureau regional d’action SIDA (BRAS). Both these organizations have an important impact on the Ottawa/Gatineau gay community, we felt it important to support their efforts. In the past eight SwimEAUthons we have raised over $75,000 for various LGBTQ2+ groups in the area with up to 40 swimmers participating yearly.
When collecting the donations, give the choice of beneficiary organization to the donors by presenting to them the donation forms of both organizations. These will then be collected on the day of the SwimEAUthon and sent to the respective organizations. They will then be able to issue tax receipts.
You can swim the 1500m (60 lengths) either individually or in groups of up to four swimmers. These will be timed for you and lap counters will be available. Snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the morning.
To participate as a volunteer, to inquire about free housing for visitors or to get more information, please contact swimeauthon@rideauspeedeaus.com.
Capital Rainbow Refuge
Capital Rainbow Refuge is a group of primarily LGBTQ2+ members of the Ottawa community who sponsor sexual and gender minority refugees.
We work with half a dozen other LGBTQ2+ refugee sponsorship groups in Ottawa, and have many additional settlement circles helping LGBTQ2+ refugees who have come here by other means. It is criminal to be gay in 72 countries worldwide and 13 of these countries have the death penalty for LGBTQ2+ people. We believe we can harness the privilege and gains we have made to make a difference.
Le BRAS (Outaouais) is a non profit organization that was founded in 1990. It puts into place community actions in terms of education, prevention, support and housing to improve the quality of life of the population in relation to HIV/AIDS.
